Bad news for all the authors out there. If you write your book digitally then you are not writing a book but a .doc or .pdf. So don’t you all dare to add in your vita that you are writing books, kay?

  1. For some further context.

It was originally a post where someone explained his “dream book”would be a book that turns into whatever you need in your current mood. Automatically.

I jokingly said that we have something (important word following) similar. Not identical but similar, also no “algorithm” detecting automatically what you need and so but we have some book that can turn into (in theory) every book in existence. And into comics and any .PDF ever written and so on.

A simple ebook reader. Similar, not identical. And the closest, for now, we have to such a thing. But seemingly ebook readers are not books and therefore don’t qualify for a book that turns into any book…

  2. Do people fail to realize that a book is made from a computerized document these days? An e-reader simply skips a step. Pedantic to the max here. Just wow. They need a vacation to get rid of whatever stick they have up their hindquarters.

  3. I… I… I agree with them – the distinction is immaterial in context so them picking up on it was pointless & you’re entirely in the right to be annoyed BUT they’re correct – definitively a PDF is not a book.

  4. OP, you are the facepalm here. The guy is absolutely right. A book is bound paper with glue. What you are talking about is maybe an ebook. But not a book. The author is still an author but from a novel, story, documentary, etc. If you didn’t publish the book irl then you haven’t written one. You have written an ebook but certainly not a book. That’s why it is called ebook reader and not library.
