  1. He’s the only character I can think of who’s CONSTANTLY drawn with broken/missing teeth….

And then all of a sudden drawn with full teeth!

The full teeth gives it away I think:
It’s a STARK contrast of his design choice that we see everywhere else.

The only time we see characters with missing teeth are either if they’re introduced with missing teeth (old men, kids who haven’t grown their teeth yet/are rough and tumble) or if they’re really heavily beaten up!!!!!

Blackbeard wasn’t beaten up the first time we saw him- he wasn’t coming out of a fight. So his teeth like that is definitely a design choice overall- probably having lost them over a lifetime of being in pirate fights….

For him to all of a sudden have a FULL MOUTH OF TEETH——— there’s something there.

  2. Don’t think their brothers.

I subscribe to the three hearts/octopus theory also.

He pumps dark “ink” like an octopus.
His Jolly Roger has 8 points.
    Three hearts like an octopus
Has an odd sleep cycle (active sleep is 40 sec.)

Yeah, octopus zoan. Others have suggested a kraken as well.

  3. It’s possible, the 581 one is definitely the weirdest. no way Oda would forgot to draw the missing teeth imo

Would he forget to draw Zoros eye closed or Luffys scar?

I’m still suspect of Luffy and Zoro referring to BB as them/they. I know people think they meant his crew but who knows

  4. My theory is that Blackbeard is a failed Vegapunk prototype engineered to be able to use multiple Devil Fruits. There’s a lot of evidence that I feel that supports this, but it’s all mostly inferred based on the way Oda does things and I’m just a peasant compared to GOda, who’s work I read and re-read like a crack addiction. I like this teeth detail/theory about Teach because of how clever it requires you to notice the teeth and personalities are consistent between his few appearances.

    My evidence for my thoughts:

Marshall D. Teach said that he knew which Devil Fruit he wanted and what it looked like based on a book he read and the only person who’s ever referenced that book is Sanji, back on Thriller Bark talking about Absalom’s fruit. I’ve been waiting all this time to see if the book is common or something only these two had access to. Now that we know more, considering that Sanji had access to it through Judge, Judge genetically engineered his ideal humans, AND he was talking about it back when he was on MADS (**with Vegapunk**) which we know because of what Queen has said, it makes me wonder if Vegapunk has tried doing something similar. Judge wanted to engineer people’s human traits but it seems like Vegapunk is Devil Fruit obsessed since we know he’s putting Devil Fruit powers into inanimate objects/machines like the Pacifistas. Deeming the mechanism for action within Devil Fruits “Lineage Factor” sounds like something that you can pass on/give to others too, idk, just a very science-y name. We know Vegapunk can create Devil Fruits that work damn well too based on Momonosuke.

Secondly, we have a bunch of loose ends still in One Piece and we know that One Piece has like 5~ years left based on Oda-sensei’s words which means probably one or two more big arc’s like Wano, meaning we can expect all the loose ends to start to tie in together since almost everything does in One Piece (**apparently except for the fucking Foxy Pirates**) when it comes to Oda’s overarching narratives. We have the Revolutionary Army, the Gorosei, Imu-sama, the World Government and their new creations that the SSG (Vegapunk) have created to replace the Warlords, and Blackbeard on the table for some of what’s left. It’s not unreasonable to think Blackbeard could connect to Vegapunk. It would make a pretty interesting Frankenstein and his Monster dynamic between Teach and Vegapunk, and could be part of why Blackbeard wants to become the Pirate King – to show his creator he isn’t a failure.

My headcannon/theory nonsense to support this continues considering what we know about Blackbeard’s childhood. Our drawing of Blackbeard as a kid shows him being sad and awake at night, and we know Blackbeard doesn’t sleep – which by itself sounds like some scientific creation type shit to me honestly. We also already have a precedent in One Piece with scientists experimenting on children and another precedent of genetically engineered humans – BOTH from scientists that were also on MADS with Vegapunk so it isn’t stupid to think it’s possible Vegapunk has created or tried to perfect genetically engineered children or tested his theories on children.

The two big questions to ask now are: “How did Blackbeard escape” and “Why didn’t the WG chase after him on the DL”??? The first answer I would guess is that Vegapunk threw him out as a failure – left behind similar to the perfectly functional Devil Fruit that Momonosuke ate. The second answer would be that I think Teach’s first goal was to join the crew of the most powerful pirate he could find that would protect him – which he did perfectly: Whitebeard. We had an entire WAR arc showing us what happens when you mess with Whitebeard’s crew. It’s not unreasonable for the WG to think Teach disappeared or died given the fact that Teach was **purposefully laying low for some reason and not showing his true power and nature** when he was with Whitebeard. Lastly, based on how Vegapunk handled Kuma with the whole turning him into a total machine but still programming him to protect the Sunny, I think Vegapunk is going to be a chaotic neutral character. Not a friend or foe, just someone who is going to do whatever kinda science he wants and nobody will stop him because they all want his science drip. Plus, I feel like a worldwide genius would naturally just want to min-max what the best combinations of Devil Fruits would be if you could have more than one, so creating a person who can use multiple seems like a fun endeavor from a nerd’s perspective, being one myself. A nerd that is, not a science genius. I’m way too dumb for that lmao

    ****Irrelevant addition:****

The whole context of my headcannon really makes me think of this book trilogy by Margaret Atwood called the MaddAddam series. In it, this SUPER smart genetic scientist who’s way ahead of everyone else essentially engineers what he considers to be the perfect version of certain species – including humans – so that they can live the best life suited to their environment and species. It’s been a while since I read the books, but if I remember right the scientist assures the end of the world in such a way that his creations are guaranteed to survive but modern society is doomed.

  5. They are not brothers. Different heads of cerberus or different physical qualities of different personalities are more likely.

He still fought for 3 days straight and was considered to have a weird body well before he got the yami fruit, so there would be no way to hide his brothers

  6. It definitely means **something**. When Oda just makes mistakes, he corrects them for the book releases. But he left these as-is.

Drawing Blackbeard with all his teeth was very clearly intentional.

  7. I think the identical twins theory is seriously lacking, because it doesn’t explain how he was able to go without sleep BEFORE the Yami-Yami fruit.

I personally think multiple personalities (like Cavendish) makes more sense.

  8. Yes. This has been my theory for about 12 years, since Marco quoted about his weird body. Unfortunately people would rather believe the final pirate boss in a pirate story is going to be a three-headed dog

  9. This is honestly more convincing than 90% of Ohara’s arguments in his last few videos. This is at least something Oda has clearly done. There’s a chance it’s random but somehow I doubt that. I don’t know for sure how Oda works but I’m fairly sure he at least has models drawn for every character in his story, something to reference when he’s drawing them because unless he has photographic memory ( which would make the randomness impossible) he could never remember every design and do things like age them consistently. He drew the different teeth patterns consciously, I think that’s most likely case.

What that means though is a different story though. It can be a hint, I think that’s quite likely. But it also could just as well be a visual running gag of sorts. One Piece is world where milk heals teeth and bones after all. Personally I thinks it’s just enough obscure to fit into former rather than latter so 60-40 hint vs joke.

  10. This is just style I think. Maybe the full teeth is a different personality, but the broken teeth is probably just not remembering exact how it looked. Oda sometimes doesn’t draw Luffy’s scar, Zoro’s swords on the wrong side, Zoro’s eye, the strawhat, character sizes, etc. This is one thing Oda makes consistent mistakes with that get fixed in volume, and as we know milk makes teeth grow back so I would not overthink this one.

  11. 1. He breaks his teeth a lot on from hitting his teeth against the rum bottles.

    2. He doesn’t like milk so he doesn’t get calcium. Which creates a never ending cycle of breaking his teeth.

    3. He drinks milk occasionally to regrow his teeth.
