Question? Which Naruto vs Sasuke fight do you prefer part 1 or Shippuden?

Personally it’s part 1 for me.

  1. I lean part 1. The “spectacle” was much more impressive in part 2, but the emotion felt more in p1 after they’d spent the last 100 episodes fighting together.

Also, the fight in p1 was a GOAT tier YouTube amv. Slap some Linkin Park on that fight and it’s pretty untouchable

Edit: I’m out here unlocking core memories for people. My favorite part 1 fights to watch YouTube amvs for were

    Lee v Gaara

    Sasuke v Gaara

    Three Sannin

    Choji vs that fat guy

    Gaara vs Kimmimaru

And at #1 was Naruto vs Sasuke

  2. In part 1 I like the fact that there was a lot of fist fighting, Naruto was feeling really depressed and had no will to hurt Sasuke with his full strength and when the fight finished I felt really empty because I was very connected to Naruto’s sense of disappointment, but I was also in awe at Sasuke’s determination and the lengths he would go to to achieve his goal.

In part 2 however i loved when Sasuke said “Your Shadow Clone Jutsu is just an embodiment of how alone you are as a person, your biggest embarrassment” or something along those lines and damn that hit really hard. And we also have the NANDOMO NANDOMO which is voice acting at it’s peak, but part 1 was the fight that was the most emotional for me, really got me in my feels, so I would say I prefer part 1 because I felt a lot of uncertainty whereas in part 2 I knew that Sasuke would come back to the good side.

  3. Part 2. Better animated, better choreography, more cool moves, much better pacing, more hype, I liked the way it concluded their character arcs even if Sasuke’s revolution was kinda forced and it was a better conclusion to the series imo

  4. Part 2 is better, you’d only say part 1 because of nostalgia. The details in part 2 are amazing. The way sasuke stops naruto from using shadow clones multiple times, the way he uses his hands for seals. The build up from hand to hand to their most powerful avatar forms and then back to hand to hand again when their chakras depleted. The emotions throughout it. And Sasuke admitting he lost with naruto finally getting through to him. It’s pretty much a perfect fight

  5. Part 1 had something about it that part 2 didn’t have

Edit: up vote notifications brought me back here, and I just thought of what I think I meant originally. It’s that to me, I feel like in part 1 both characters fought true to their styles and how they would have. Part 2 kinda just turns to Sasuke losing battle iq and going for all or nothing attacks, and Naruto perfectly being the defensive fighter that he never was. I would’ve loved to see a DBZ style power creep of base to base, one side power up, then the next, and so on so forth over the course of the amount of episodes it deserved. Naruto vs Sasuke should’ve easily been 15 episodes. We had been waiting for years for it

  6. Part 1 for the emotion but i have narrative problems with both.

Part 1, naruto was hell bent on finding him, got all his friends galravely hurt, just to get to Sasuke and gets messed up bad. He doesn’t actually fight until 3/4 of the way through, just to chicken out last minute and scratch his headband instead of injuring Sasuke (yes narutos arm went nunb, but he still could’ve attacked him instead on the headband)

For part 2, naruto was obviously tired, and the manga implied that naruto was holding back, where the anime showed Sasuke was more adapt at fighting. Also, naruto didn’t use any of the tech or starts he’s used or learned to fight which also bothered me.

  7. Both are VERY good IMO, its apart of the BIG 3 anime for a reason. But the power that the characters display in Shippuden is unrivaled, all the new justu and forms and the crazy plot. It’s nothing short of amazing, shippuden takes the cake for me man. The fighting scenes and all like everything is crazy

  8. The part 2 fight is infinitely better. They actually going back and forth and the sequence of events is just better.

In the part 1 fight it felt like Sasuke was stomping Naruto for the first 70% of the fighting. The part 1 fight may have more emotion so you can say it’s the better “moment” but it terms of being the better fight, part 2 easily takes it.

  9. Part one makes me feel the emotional impact more, but as a big fan of the little blonde feller I personally prefer the one where he achieves his objective in the fight

  10. When I opened this thread I was gonna say it was about even with favour towards P1 but…I actually think the entire context of the Shippuden fight makes it the winner to me.

Part 1 was two kids fighting for their ideologies and goals and not really meeting in the middle because they didn’t know how else to move forward. Part 2 almost seems the same, but instead of two kids fighting for what they want, it’s two people that never got to be a kid fighting about who they are. I don’t really believe Sasuke wanted to win in part 2, I think he was on the precipice where he can finally die or he kills his own heart and never has to face up to what he’s done. He knows he is the monster, and he’s playing the part because he only sees those two outcomes, because in one way or another he’s gotten everything he wanted up to that point in Part 2. Naruto, on the other hand, sees another way, despite continuing to lose and sacrifice since the last time they fought. He’s still the optimist, he’s the hero, not just for the innocent, but he’s the one there to save the villain from themselves as well. They both play their parts and it is the epitome of hopelessness vs hope in the face of everything, it’s both of them finally seeing each other for who they really are, and it is Naruto forgiving Sasuke anyway. It’s Sasuke forgiving himself for the years of wrongdoing, and finally letting someone else in because for the first time he truly believes that Naruto truly understands him, and that if he can be forgiven by the one that sees him most then he can atone.

Some of the choreography in P1 is better, but the anime (and Storm 4) versions of the Shippuden battle are absolutely phenomenal as well, and when I saw the Shippuden conclusion I hadn’t seen The Last or anything Boruto related so I didn’t have the foresight of knowing that Sasuke survived, let alone was redeemed, so I went into both fights with real stakes and I think the part 2 battle means more in my mind. It was also the end of 8 years of following the series with each chapter release which probably contributed to that feeling of finality to me.

  11. Shippuden, BY FAR, but both of them are pretty awesome and both extremely well animated for their time and hold up quite well.

That said, I’m not going to say that they didn’t both have shortcomings the other one did well on. They both were a spectacle to watch, but Shippuden clearly had the upper hand in terms of animation, opportunities, character abilities, and overall had a lot more choreography. Again, they both did well, but the Shippuden battle held a lot more stakes, more powerful and emotional characters, both with extremely different righteous beliefs, an extremely vast reservoir of jutsu, and overall was much more of a brightly colored cinematic spectacle then the original would have ever been able to have to offer. It also did extremely well, I would argue the anime battle was actually better than the manga in both cases, but I don’t particularly see the comparison all that close, despite both being awesome.

However, while both of them did have a lot of meaning and an unbelievable amount of emotion behind them, the final battle did seem a bit more forced than the original. A lot of Sasuke’s decisions can be connected and have lines drawn between them to connect the dots, but the majority of them are still out of left field, and his decision to destroy and rebuild is another example. Regardless, while since the entire series was basically about get Sasuke back as Sasuke commits horrible crime after horrible crime, becoming somewhat hire some overtime to the point where many fans honestly didn’t think Sasuke was redeemable, that would turn a lot of fans off in terms of the emotional attachment in the final battle in Shippuden. Still, I think the original was a bit more emotionally charged and had a lot more going into it for the fans to be attached to it. Whereas for Shippuden, fans that have been following along passionately instantly have a lot more emotion charged into the final battle there, but many of them also would have been turned off at that point and it was more battle of spectacle then emotion or wills. Nonetheless, I think the original battle did a slightly better job at portraying both goals and emotions and attachments, while the Shippuden battle still technically had more to it, but a lot of it was things fans had to catch on first; no not all of it since both had very moving moments.

Overall, both of them were excellent fights, and while I think the original battle was extremely awesome, I don’t find a particularly close to what Shippuden was able to do and it’s final battle. Though, the final battle in Shippuden was a bit more thematic and corny, the original one also had a hilariously unnerving amount of flashbacks whereas Shippuden focused on the actual battle and interaction a little bit more. Still, it is Naruto, there will always be flashbacks.

  12. No comparison, Part 1 is literally just better. The emotional stakes are high, the battle is good and Sasuke’s motivations make sense. Sasuke is deranged but for really good character motivations.

In the part 2 fight he just comes off as a deranged nutjob with a nonsensical ideology, his motivations to fight are so unclear and muddy. They made him dumb and angry so he could have some reason to fight Naruto for the big final battle.

  13. Both are amazing but it is Part 1.
Shippuden is for sure more spectacular and emotions are still there but my nitpick is THAT Uppercut by Naruto, I don’t buy the explanation.

Part 1 seems to have simple story but it gets deeper and emotional, we find out why Sasuke is going for the kill, Naruto realising it, Sasuke’s “You were alone from the start, how can you understand me”. The fight may start slow but gets crazy later on, choreography, animation, back and forth. To me episode 133 is best of OG Naruto by far. Naruto losing in the end is a nice surprise.

  14. Ya know I’m going with both. I love the first one, it’s a classic. The second one is also really damn good and the culmination of the story. Naruto finally beat Sasuke in a fight and we get to see the emotions they both have at the end of it and also that final Rasengan and Chidori clash was glorious.

  15. Look the fights in shipputen are cooler but part one has an amazing flavor of fighting because characters where not so serious and kind of goofy also they show the full fucking fight. in shippuden like I said the fight are cooler probably even better in some parts but in other parts the pacing is horrible and makes it boring to watch or read.

  16. Hot take: mine is the one on the rooftop. For me its the last real rival interaction in the series where its also kinda about sportsmanship in like a material arts kind of way if that makes any sense 😀

  17. If we’re talking manga, I’d say Part 1. If we’re talking anime, then Part 2, simply because I don’t like at all the filler they added for Part 1’s fight. Made them look much, MUCH stronger than what they actually were at the time, which I don’t really enjoy,

  18. Part 1. Here you had both of them start off in base form and they each power up with you thinking “wtf this is crazy how strong are they!?” In part 2 they start at their strongest forms and go backwards which I believe doesn’t have the same effect since we’ve been shown all that before hand.

  19. Part 1 because Naruto was actually trying unlike part 2 we’re Kishimoto failed the “equal” narrative and had Naruto on the defensive 99% of the fight

  20. I like both equally. Part 1 was great because a class clown like Naruto went toe to toe against Sasuke who was basically a prodigy. Part 2 was great because it started off with no conversations in the true “elite ninjas don’t need to talk to share their feelings” spirit. And also you get to see how far Naruto has come when he’s fighting seriously, that Taijutsu battle against Sasuke was simply amazing.
