What do you guys think about Itachi’s plan to brainwash Sasuke into being loyal to Konoha through the use of Kotoamatsukami?
All of Itachi’s plans are a long and winding case of “the path to hell is paved with good intentions.” In other words, boy took some calculated risks but HOT DAMN was he bad at the math.
I think people forget that when Itachi put a lot of his plans into motion, he was still only 13, and acting on limited intel.
He kills the entire clan, except for Sasuke – He believes the sharingan is empowered by loss, so he drives home the loss to Sasuke. He thinks Mangekyou is tied to losing your best friend, and he can’t otherwise guarantee that happens to Sasuke, so he encourages him to kill said friend.
Then 5 years later, he shows up to keep an eye on Sasuke and a fight starts. He needs to end the fight without killing anyone while also not blowing his cover in front of Kisame-so, he uses Tsukuyomi on both Kakashi and Sasuke.
3 years later, just prior to his death, he worries he pushed Sasuke too far/didn’t plan on Orochimaru and the curse seal eating away at Sasuke, so he runs a hail mary with the mind control.
Hindsight is a bitch. I’m sure to a 13 year old, “I’ll be a bad guy, make little bro hate me, kill me, and then he’ll be a hero and everything will be fine” seems like a great plan.
Wouldn’t someone with a Byakugan notice this inside of Naruto? Wouldn’t Kakashi have also been able to see this with Thai Sharingan? It seems like logically this would’ve been extracted from Naruto given his Chakra was closely monitored being he’s the 9 tails jinchuriki. Maybe I’m wrong, and I don’t know how shoving a crow with a Sharingan down someone’s throat works, but wouldn’t this *have* chakra, and people who can sense/see chakra notice there’s a foreign chakra in Naruto that’s also not that of the 9 tails?

It was disgusting lol. Itachi’s entire manipulation for Sasuke was disgusting and extremely disturbing. It sucks even more because Sasuke was genuinely getting over his revenge and was finding true happiness in his newfound family in Team 7.
Then Itachi came and went, “No, bitch,” before beating the shit out of him and making him relive his family’s death thousands of times over.
Itachi did not handle Sasuke correctly. It was beyond fucked up and Itachi recognizes that. He admitted to it during their final goodbye.

If we never saw his sincere attachment to sasuke, he would be regarded as another orochimaru-tier psycho by the fanbase.

Terrible plan as Itachi himself kind of lampshades when he tells Sasuke about this plan to dismiss Sasuke’s claim Itachi was perfect.
It thinks it’s…kind of icky.
What I mean is, Itachi no doubt cared about Sasuke more than anything, but to me, Itachi’s love for Sasuke sometimes seemed…not possessive, but more like controlling. VERY controlling and manipulative.
He didn’t trust Sasuke to make his own decisions, and that’s pretty messed up. While I love Itachi’s characterization, that doesn’t mean I’m okay with everything he did, or planned to do.
Fuck Itachi. Really wanted to make his brother a puppet and serve the village that hated his clan. No better than Madara’s plan.
Always found it weird how the series was ok with this, but the Infinite Tsyukiomi was a no-no
He was obviously desperate. The thing about Itachi is that even a prodigy can make severe mistakes. He knew that the Shinobi world was f*cked up, so kinda lost hope in making a meaningful change.
That’s why he relied on Naruto in the end. The most hopeful promise for a better world and maybe even the salvation of his little brother.
We know that Sasuke was stubborn and that kotoamatsukami doesn’t change the personality of an individual (except for the single order it establishes), so maybe Itachi hoped that Sasuke would eventually realize his mistakes with the help of Naruto?
Anyway, I just assume that Kishimoto wrote Itachi as a dick for a good reason. The point was to make him a tragic character and in that, I think Kishimoto succeeded.
Itachi is a bootlicking government thug who is willing to do anything in order to defend and cover up state ordered mass murder.

Gross, weird, disgusting, etc. Itachi was an overconfident control freak. I wish Kishi gave us some more time with him and his thoughts because he was very interesting. His selflessness was ironically incredibly selfish.

Once again he took all the responsibility in himself. And suffered the consequences. Like he said it’s good to share! Had he done that he wouldn’t have needed kotoamatsukami for sasuke but kept it for madara or zetsu or maybe given that to sasuke to use at his perusal!
Kishittymoto is a terrible writer. Itachi is the supposed genius from a very young age but doesn’t understand basic nuance and critical thinking when it comes to decision making?
It’s the same as all his other decisions before his death, he tried to do what he thought was good for Sasuke and the village all on his own without letting Sasuke have any real agency and like the rest, this plan was the incorrect course of action. It did turn out well though.

Itachi’s a fanatical jingoist, so he behaves that way. It’s by design, and yes, it’s irrevocably repugnant, like his fandom. No one who isn’t afflicted by lunacy would endorse this, but itachi wankers’ grips on their cocks, when they gaze upon his greatness, intensify to the point that blood stops and they have a euphoric experience in the process, one which only solo-king’s wankery can provide.

Itachi is not a good person. Madara is a better person than him if you think about it. Madara using Obito was the worst thing he did and causing the hidden mist blood war
Best of a bad situation, would’ve been bad if it had to get to that point but atleast Sasuke would’ve put that power to something good unlike Itachi
