It’s Ironic that a grown man was praised for his “brutal honesty” despite the fact that it was said PURELY to provoke and anger Naruto & Sakura and not out of any worry or concern for them like many want to think but an 11 year old girls insensitive but “brutal honesty” in chapter 3 is unforgivable.

  1. Personally, I feel like Sai was right. Although his choice of words could have been different, in the end, Sasuke was a traitor who sided with a mass murderer for revenge. Sai said what everyone else was thinking, and the only reason he was hit was that Sakura couldn’t handle anything directed at her Sasuke. As for Sai’s indifferent attitude, he can’t help it as his emotion had been stripped from him in the foundation at a young age. With regards to the other image, that wasn’t brutal honestly, it was just simple idiocy based on opinion since she was a child and knew nothing of the true pain of living alone.

  2. Was it said purely to provoke them, though? Sai was socially inept and utterly sucked at predicting how people would react to his observations, he wasn’t being annoying on purpose. Like when he called Sakura ugly and Ino pretty, he wasn’t being a troll, he was genuinely struggling through trial and error to figure out how nicknames work.

  3. Sai isn’t a grown man.

Sai was conditioned to be emotionless from a young age. He doesn’t know how to act around people for obvious reasons.

Sakura wasn’t brutally honest. She was being a bratty kid who didn’t know what she was talking about .

Sakura was not justified for punching Sai or making fun of Naruto.

  4. I’m assuming you’re saying the FANS of the Naruto series praised Sai for his brutal honesty here. Sai is an odd case because he was literally trained to have zero emotions or empathy so him saying this is kinda excusable because he literally doesn’t understand what he said was hurtful to other people. He’s still learning here, and Sakura hitting him was wrong.

Onto Sakura’s comment; Naruto acted out and pulled a bunch of pranks because he wanted attention from people because he was lonely and an orphan, even Iruka did the same thing. What Sakura said was technically true (the bit about how he could do whatever he wants yadda yadda yadda) but she said it in the most rude and insensitive way possible, in front of another person with no parents.

And honestly, I don’t see what was so horrible about this? Yea her comment was shitty and rude and immature but she was 12, a sheltered brat who didn’t understand how absolutely garbage it is to be without parents despite being able “to do whatever he wants”. Kids do and say dumb shit without realising what they said or did was insensitive and they need to be reprimanded for this, which Sasuke does immediately after this and to which she realises she was being harsh on Naruto and she needed to be nicer to him. She showed remorse and made improvements to her treatment of Naruto.

So yea. She was rude and bratty and insensitive, but she wasn’t unforgivable like how some people paint her to be. People need to stop treating what she said in CHAPTER 3 of a 700 CHAPTER SERIES as the defining moment of her character. There’s a whole cast of characters that did worse things than make a few rude comments towards orphans

  5. Sai was absolutely right though , Sakura and Naruto just couldn’t handle reality and the truth. So they resorted to anger because they couldn’t think of any argument that would prove Sai is wrong

This was a horrible comparison and doesn’t make sense

  6. I do agree that Sakura gets too much hate for that line. She was 12 years old, it’s understandable that she thinks Naruto and Sasuke are lucky for not having parents that annoy them or ground them for misbehaving. It’s like that Jimmy Neutron movie where they didn’t have parents and all the kids rejoiced for like a day until they realized they can’t take care of themselves. All kids take their parents for granted until they realize what it’s like to live without them.

  7. Sakura, unlike Sai, have a normal childhood and she was very inmature at that scene not thinking on Naruto’s past or oh surprise, how what she said could hurt Sasuke because he was on a similar situation. Sakura wasn’t really being honest because she cared about Naruto growing up into a reliable person, she was making fun of him because she thought Sasuke would agree with her. I know Shippuden Sakura wouldn’t be like that.

Sai was forced to become a weapon without emotions or aby idea about how to socialize. Later on the series we can see he cares about other friends and team mates

The context for the first time we saw each other is completely different

  8. I remember how cringe Sakura and Naruto were in this arc. Even Sai, the emotionless weapon, was gobsmacked by Naruto’s obsession

She literally hit Sai because he called Sasuke a traitorous cockroach. Nothing but facts

Edit: Of course I will get downvoted

  9. * Sai is literally brainwashed to be emotionless at this point of the story. Using him to argue that Sakura was making a valid point is ridiculous.

    * Sasuke *literally* was a traitor at this point in the story lol. Like objectively by classification, he’s a traitor to the village.

    * You keep trying to point out that Sakura is being “brutally honest” and “objective” by saying that Naruto acts out because he has no parents and can do whatever he wants. But we know that isn’t true. Naruto acted out because he wanted attention, because people being annoyed with him was better than people dismissing him entirely. And you’re ignoring the main issue people have with what Sakura said. She said that he’s **LUCKY** to not have parents. As if being an orphan was a good thing. That’s not “honesty”, that’s a bratty kid not knowing how bad Naruto actually had it (while saying it to another kid who wishes he still had parents). That’s why Sasuke was annoyed, and that’s why fans give her shit. Not because she called Naruto a trouble maker.

If you want to say Sakura shouldn’t be judged for what she said as a 12 year old, go ahead. But you’re being dishonest if you think the issue people had was her “brutal honesty” and not the fact that she was dismissive over the pain of Naruto not having parents. He didn’t act out because of not knowing better, he acted out so people would know him as Naruto and not the 9 tails brat (even if it meant they hated him).

  10. Funniest thing to me will always be that Sakura’s orphan comment is the exact same reasoning Naruto fans use to excuse early Naruto’s bad behavior….

He’s like that because he’s an orphan, and no one taught him better

  11. Sasuke is a traitor for running to a child trafficker.

There are different ways to obtain power. None of the Orochimaru’s two years of training power help against Itachi. He already had the cursed power before leaving the village.

  12. I don’t really get why the early Sakura had that bit of dialogue, she’s smart evidently so why the fuck author made her say that to another orphan. The uchiha massacre is pretty famous so why ? She is obsessed with Sasuke but doesn’t know anything about Sasuke, that is one of the dumbest things about the series in general which carries on throughout the show. I would rather have NaruSasu instead, atleast they had romance.

  13. first who cares about sai, much less praise him. and also, it’s hard to really have the brainwashed guy take responsibility for not being empathetic to someone’s situation compared to someone who really should know better

  14. So a couple of things here, Sai isn’t a grown man, he’s their age. Also, if you recall his background he has zero idea how to be sensitive and empathize with his comrades. This man was sitting in the library reading books on how to understand other people’s emotions in order to relate to his new team better.
Sakura (who was an immature, young child) was being cruel about Naruto not having parents and trying to seem cool in front of Sasuke while not even realizing this boy she claimed to love so much is still dealing with the loss of both of his parents.

  15. Oh wow a Sai post. I don’t see these very often.

I don’t have any useful input to this conversation but imo Sai is boring with Hella wasted potential. Sakura is overall unlikable through the series imo (I’ll admit I haven’t re-read the manga in quite a few years) but she also had Hella wasted potential.

For me I don’t dislike her cuz of what she said in chapter 3, I dislike her cuz she really didn’t get better for me.
