Opening a gate is similar to removing a training weight. You can’t open a gate more than once in the same vein as you can’t remove a weight that is no longer on your body.

I don’t get what you mean by “use”. As far as I understood this gate opening enables increase in ability, once opened you can fight at this increased ability for some time and there is no need to reopen smth already opened.

Opening the gate surpasses the body’s natural limits. Each gate is open temporarily, and the tapped power quickly drains. The only way to continue using the gates power is to unlock the next gate.
It’s probably best to compare the gates to something like Tsunade’s Mitotic Regeneration. A recovery period is required after activation, and forcing it would probably have no effect or cause even more damage.

I think you’re asking “can he only use a gate once, ever?” As in, if he uses the 3rd gate in an episode, is he unable to use it again, forever? And to that, the answer is no. Once opened, the gate can be closed and he can reuse every gate but the 8th again.
The anime gave no limit to how many times you can open it. Kakashi was stated to be able to open the first and Guy used the gates at least 3 separate times. There was a filler where Guy and Lee used the gates to separate themselves from mannequin puppets.
If you are asking if you can open them twice at once to “stack” the buff no. That might be how the training works to consecutive gates but once a gate is opened it can’t be opened again unless it is closed. They are essentially chakra points the restrict the flow of chakra. Each gate opened has a physical tell that it is opened like red skin or an aura of evaporating sweat.
8th gate
1. Based on the dialogue that happened during his fight against Madara, this lasts about 2 minutes. Adding breaks, off-panel time, fight time, etc., could easily be up to 3 minutes or more.
2. If we actually remove Evening Elephant and Night Guy (ie he fights without them) then that time should increase dramatically, say 8 minutes (for poetic justice).

In addition, you have to remember that Gai has already expended a large part of his natural amount of chakra and has already fatigued his body – he has used 7G (twice, although he has recovered a little the first time obviously because of Kurama’s chakra) which hurt him. He also used the chakra provided by 7G and he has fought in a war for about 2 days now, also using the gates (and I am talking about repeated use of 6G).
Considering all this, I would estimate that it could last in the 8G (EE / NG ) for at least 12-15 minutes. If he uses moves like EE and NG, this time is obviously reduced.
7th gates
Applying the same considerations above, if he refrains from using Hirudora, a Gay full of tank could comfortably last at least 40 to 50 minutes. And if he uses only one Hirudora, of course, this time is reduced, say 25-35 minutes.
Naturally, the time indicates full endurance, meaning it indicates the potential for repeated uses of Hirudora (I’d say three max, the latter leaving him as exhausted as he was against Madara, or worse – well. that it will only collapse if the Hirudora forces it out of its Gated state, i.e. it reaches its 7G chakra limit.)
So yes gai as rock lee can use the 1-7 doors at least 3 times and keep them long enough in fight
More importantly, can you open gates and use drunken boxing at the same time. I think they really overlooked this strategy when they were facing all the end of the world stuff that went on towards the end of the series.

Yes he can but only till 7th gate
