  1. This moment really got me thinking about the theory that said kawaki and boruto are fighting in the future over wether to take everyone and escape earth (kawakis idea) bc theres no hope in stoping code from planting the ten tails for a god tree, or let everyone stay (borutos idea) and fight code to protect earth. After that line of “it doesnt matter what he thinks”, its much more beliveable that kawaki would take naruto to a safe place off earth forcefully with the mindset that hes know whats best for naruto. It would also make sense that this would cause a conflict between them seeing as naruto is the type of person to go with the idea of protecting earth and fighting off code, instead of leaving earth to be destroyed.

  2. I think people are misinterpreting it.

Kawaki’s world consisted of disappointments, suffering and nothingness. Him living in Naruto’s house has been nice–but I don’t think Kawaki fully comprehends that, this is “normal”, or that, he should fight to keep living like that.

No, I think Kawaki is still living in the past. He no longer has Karma, the one thing he could have used to protect Naruto. The only chip he has to play with now, is his own life. Again, I don’t think Kawaki understands that his goal should be trying to survive, trying to have a life–like everyone else.

In other words, I don’t think Kawaki imagines himself in the future. If you were to ask, what do you want to do? I don’t think he would have an answer. Instead, he only has one goal currently, and that is to give back to the person who gave him so much.

And because his only chip is currently his life, I don’t think Kawaki cares about throwing his life away, for the miniscule possibility of saving Naruto. I don’t think this is obsession, I think this comes from how he perceives himself in the world. In a way, Kawaki has always been told that he is nothing and he is no one–and he carries that with him. He does not see himself as part of the world, and this is his way of acting desperately to provide what little he can to Naruto.

The alternatives are simple. If it fails, then Kawaki dies and so will everyone else, including Naruto. But, if Kawaki does nothing, he probably thinks this will happen regardless–so at the very least, giving his life has the small chance of making a difference that will save Naruto–even if it dooms everyone else.

  3. Kawaki doesn’t want to protect Naruto the person, he wants to protect Naruto the concept. The persons opinions don’t matter to him because regardless of Naruto’s opinions he will still be Naruto, only maintaining the existence of the ideal he created in his head matters now.

Similar to Obito, he created an ideal in his mind of Rin and then did everything real Rin would have hated in order to “bring her back”. He didn’t care how much she would have hated it though because his love for her twisted into a love for the ideal of her.
