We should be incredibly lucky there are financiers and a working team who want to create the best film possible in the physical space and time that they have to create it.
It’s much appreciated and I can’t wait to see it come to life.
It’s both COVID *and* issues with the movie itself. COVID unavailability was definitely a factor, but a reshoot this massive isn’t just minor retouches or cameos.
Since the Hollywood Reporter article, I’ve been thinking there are big problems going on with this movie’s plot, which is something that Cumberbatch is never going to admit, and that’s totally understandable.
As a fan of Doctor Strange, I’m worried for this movie. I’ll watch it, sure, but I can only hope for a fun mess and not a hot mess.
Remember when reshoots were a sign of course correction and the film was going to be terrible? Now it’s a mark of praise for taking the time to improve their product.
If this is true then I’m so happy. WandaVision’s finale from cutting stuff because of COVID, and I think the same is true for Falcon and the Winter Soldier. If they can put back in some of the stuff that they couldn’t do before, I’m happy.
The term “reshoots” is often misused by the media and internet. Most of the stuff they are shooting is likely actually Pickups rather than Reshoots.
The network (Disney) gave notes on a cut of the movie and it’s up to the production company (Marvel Studios) to address the notes. If they can’t address the notes with the footage they have, they need to shoot pickups. Very different than reshooting entire scenes. Now, some of the notes may be “can we cut to Wanda during this scene” and if they did not shoot Wanda’s reaction, they will likely need to reshoot the scene, but not for the reasons you’re led to believe in an article.
I mean, they want to put out the best product they can get.
this checks out with Benedict Wong who posted on IG back in February[?] 2021 (emphasis on **Madness of the Multi-schedule**):

The third to last and second to last sentences sound like complete contradictions to me. I’m confused

I just really hope they leave the original cut in the BTS. In way it just another universe in the MCU

Pasting my comment from another thread:
