The difference is that you still set your own pace in the Konbumaru daily. The balloon escort mission is an “autoscroller”–the experience is defined by the fact that you don’t set the pace of play. Optimal play can, at most, avoid delays, but never gain time past a theoretical maximum.
That’s why the escort mission feels like it drags compared to the others (and why the mission where you *destroy* a balloon doesn’t–the mission ends as soon as you successfully destroy the balloon, so you’re still setting the pace of play).
