This was the shooter that had me hooked in my late teens. Do any of you remember playing this nearly two decades ago?

I’d love to see a remake of SOCOM 1-3, with voice commands. I absolutely loved the gimmick of giving voice commands. It was awesome!!
Would love a remake
Ppl talk about whiskey putting hair on your chest. Nothing made me feel manlier than playing this in front of my baby cousins.
I remember playing it in middle school. The commercials looked so cool with people actually being able to talk on microphones in a game it seemed so high tech at the time. Too bad I never got to play the ps2 online. No high speed internet or adapter. Really wish I could have played Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 and 2 online in it’s heyday as well.
I still remember getting a vote to kick if someone was behind you and you were the last alive, and sometimes too many people would do it at once and you’d get booted
SOCOM 1 and 2 were fantastic
Holy cow! One of the first games I took my families dial up internet to play online! I still hear the GRENADA! Haha
Best shooter IMO. Loved how you couldn’t regenerate life. If you got shot, you stayed shot. I played this in college on a T1 line, great game.
Alpha go yo Zulu, fire at will
That game had all us Xbox boys looking over with jealousy until Halo 2 came out.
Shit, it’s really been almost 20 years since they came out?
socom 2 was mine
This game series was my life from like 13-16. I still reminisce on it. Not a lot of people liked 3 or combined assault but I did. I remember playing on the gamebattles ladder having to record or take a picture of proof for winning because lots of teams wouldn’t report their loss.
Imo, there hasn’t been a shooter to even compare and I think it had a lot to do with how aiming on a ps2 controller with no assist wasn’t precise most of the time. You had to strategize on positioning and sometimes nab a lucky head-shot here and there. It was super satisfying to rush into a wall camper and wreck them. All the weapons were unique with their shooting patterns which I think is pretty impressive for that long ago.
Can’t ever go back to it unfortunately just because of how shooters have progressed so I’m happy to have experienced it.
People actually team worked in that game. Complete strangers would watch your back and move cover to cover with you. They would frag a room if you asked before clearing it. Not this kill greedy trick shot streamer bs world we live in today but live action. Live games with people who wanted a competitive coop experience.
This is where it all began. Too bad zipper got purchased by Sony and then ran into the ground.
Closest game to it I’ve played is ghost recon Wildlands.
Oh man was reminiscing about the first 2 Socoms the other day. Those were the days..hiding out in that little prison cell with the 3 hostages, hoping someone blows the wall and kills them.
RAH HEE LAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
My first experience online gaming as a kid. Asking if everyone could hear me and hearing back “I can hear you.” Was so exciting.
This game was absolute 🔥.
The real time strategy coop pvp was nearly perfect.
socom 1 and 2 were the best shooters of ALL time. How did this franchise die?? it blew other shooters out of the water there was no comparison.
Best game ever. Fishhook and crossroads!
These games were ahead of their time. I think I have more hours into those 3 games then another other games.
Made me get gaming internet. So much MP
I met some of my best friends on this game. Life was fun back then. A freshman in high school, no responsibilities, just late night gaming sessions with the boys.
Pretty much only played desert glory, only as terrorists
This was also the only game I ever did clan battles on, and at one point, we were the #2 clan on the leaderboards
Must’ve played thousands of hours on this game
The first online PS2 game
I worked on the cinematics for this game, they put a scan of my face on one of the un soilders and I die in an explosion in one of the cut scenes 🙁
Socom deez nuts
This was the first game I played with voice chat. Good times.
This was so far ahead of it’s time. Huge maps. 16v16. Sick game types. Accurate weapons with customization. A game where a ghillie suit actually worked. Still talk about this and SC2 to this day
This and the conflict desert storm games man
I played this so much… first game I got competitive with and was number two through game battles.com
As far as I know it’s about as perfect as it gets… miss it to all hell
