My wife is nervous giving my dog pizza treats, she came up with a pretty good solution.

  1. Cute pup!

She might try building her confidence by building up (with dog treats to not stain carpet):

    – toss the treat behind the dog, say “find it”. Gives the pup something to do that’s off her.
    – drop the treat at her feet, like the first one, just gets closer to her.
    – move from dropping, to using her hand, closed, at her feet. Up high the dog is looking up at her, down low the dog is getting down. Might combine with a “find it” to start, so she can distract him to start, and put pup using his sniffer.
    – move up higher, closed fist. Once pup is sniffing that fist, go open palm (kids should always do this).
    – closed fist to open palm (have wet wipes / pups fur).
    – fist, with treat facing backwards. Backwards and the pup is less likely to jump up and lunge at the treat. Pup should approach with a closed mouth this way, but once he’s close, let go of the treat.
    – … get comfy

Any jumping or undesirable behavior with the treat? Spin away. Pup follows, keep spinning until either the pup gets bored, or you get dizzy (then drop treat).

You might know all this already – I was just going over it with nephews the other day so I figured I’d type it out.

  2. I am not sure what’s worse, wasting good pizza, or trying to make your dog sick
