Does Goku really help Gohan during the Father-Son Kamehameha apart from lifting his spirits, or does the picture of him helping Gohan is just a metaphor? If it is, does that mean that Super Perfect Cell isn’t that much powerful than regular Perfect Cell?

  1. We see what Goku was actually doing at the same time as these moments, heavily indicating that they were just there as a symbolic sense and not Goku actually being involved.

  2. Just a metaphor.

Super Perfect Cell is far stronger than Perfect Cell of course, but there is such a gap between him and Gohan SSJ2 (Gohan SSJ2 should fight at his 20% power level and he slaughtered him), that even with the Zenkai he had, Super Perfect Cell can’t be at the same level than a 100% Gohan SSJ2.

  3. Just symbolic and motivational. And Ssj2 Gohan was DOGWALKING Perfect Cell, and was severely weakened when he killed Super Perfect Cell. I always saw Cell as a Ssj as Perfect, and Ssj2 as Super Perfect

  4. Emotionally and mentally? Absolutely. But he wasn’t shooting a Kamehameha from other world, it’s a cool metaphoric moment between father and son and it gives me goosebumps everytime.

  5. For the longest time I thought Goku was actually there, but that’s only cus my original experience with DBZ was with the Budokai games on PS2, and in the 1st game, the cutscene with the father son kamehameha doesn’t make him transparent, so it just looks like he’s there. Doesn’t help that the father son kamehameha move in game in budokai 3 doesn’t make him transparent either.

  6. Ssj2 was clowning regular cell. This new one was probably running against a Gohan at like 75% power. This isn’t an actual calc, but since he was pretty injured but not completely, he was probably at 75 percent of his potential. Compared to when cell was perfect and he got thrashed.

  7. During the beam struggle goku realized that gohan is nervous about going full power due to damage to the earth and whatnot. He urges him that they can use the dragon balls later, when gohan finally lets loose that image appears behind him metaphorically probably just cause it was goku that finally got him to actually go over the edge

  8. From what I understood reading the manga, SSJ2 Gohan outclassed Perfect Cell so much that he was literally playing with him. Super Perfect Cell was stronger, but Gohan still outclassed him. Trouble is, Gohan was using one hand and was already injured. He didn’t have Cell’s regeneration. If Vegeta didn’t distract Cell, Gohan would have lost. The fact that injured Gohan held his own against Super Perfect Cell is insane. Gohan is actually OP.

  9. Gohan was holding back the whole time fighting Cell, even in SSJ2. His power at the time was greater then even Vegeta’s and Goku’s SSJ2. Like Gohan was not a fighter, he was not a typical Saiyan that enjoyed the fight. He was pushed over the edge, yet still Gohan didn’t unleash his full power until that final moment. Gohan I believe is still the strongest SSJ2. Also at the end of DBZ, Mystic Gohan was the strongest unfused fighter. His untapped potential is insane, and I wish we got to see it more in ToP.

  10. Even if he was helping, it wouldn’t be much. Goku was in base form during the Kamehameha in the manga. So even if he was actually doing something, it wouldn’t be contributing at all.

  11. We see throughout the series that the emotional state/intensity of the Saiyans and their kids plays a massive role in them exceeding prior power levels or strength. Gohan was weakened and beaten both from Cell’s new power and was clearly distracted and troubled that he accidentally created the scenario that led to Goku sacrificing himself. He is distraught.

Meanwhile, we see Cell constantly gaining power after a beat down and subsequent recovery or worse experience. He hadn’t nearly died in that form up to that point, and even though he self destructed himself, we see his body now remembers itself and can regenerate directly back to Perfect Cell form.

This means it still remembers and gains power from Gohan’s ass-whooping, Goku’s IT and his own self destructive power. So Cell is definitely much stronger when he returns. But also remember Gohan was kicking the shit out of Cell prior to his suicide plan. So while he gained power it’s hard to say how much better he is than Gohan, if at all (considering how deflated and distraught Gohan is after Cell returns).

Goku gives Gohan strength purely through his confidence, reassurance and emotional/motivational intensity that he still has enough in him to beat him. Vegeta’s blindside on Cell, I believe, was critical towards his defeat and absent that Cell probably destroys the Earth.

That’s my belief and a couple dozen binges ????

  12. It was completely symbolic. Gohan fighting SPC didn’t believe he could do it, and thusly couldn’t draw out the most of his strength. Goku here is helping him draw out the strength he can (with a sizable ki downgrade due to losing an arm).

  13. I always saw it as a spiritual motivator to allow Gohan to use all his strength to destroy Cell. I don’t believe it was stated that Goku made any contribution to annihilating Cell.

  14. Gohan had the power but was afraid to hurt others in the aftermath so he held back. Once vegeta hit cell with his attack and stunned him, he went 100% to wipe him.

  15. The whole point of cell saga is about goku trusting Gohan is ready to replace him. That’s why he tapped out on cell. That’s why he gave him a senzu and most of all that’s why he was ready to die. It’s definetly a metaphor.

  16. It was not Goku who physically helped Gohan defeat Cell.

He was the motivation. That’s it.

However, credit needs to be given where credit is due. It was Vegeta that physically helped Gohan defeat Cell. If it wasn’t for Vegeta intervening, it might have been a different story, who knows?

Vegeta was the real hero, not Goku. Vegeta saved Goku‘s son, Goku selfishly gave Cell a Sensu Bean and stepped down when he was more than capable of killing Cell himself. In doing that, not only did he risked every being on Earth but he got King Kai killed along with the other inhabitants of King Kai’s planet, including that planet as well.

I’m still sore from Goku not keeping his promise to revive King Kai.

  17. Measuring power levels in dragonball is aside the point. The quantity is never important. What is important is simply always transcending your limits. This is literally the most essential and straightforward element to the show. The sooner you grok that it is not about amounts, but about transcending, the sooner the show can have actual bearing on your life.

  18. He’s just a glorified Cheer leader, this visual is meant to be symbolic of him being there and helping Gohan with the One hand Kamehameha. That said the Family Kamehameha from the Second Broly movie does actually feature him helping out

  19. Vegeta saved the earth in the end by distracting cell long enough for gohan to push it to the max one last time. Of course gohan had literally just saved vegetas life by tanking a blast meant for him so who knows if he was a net positive.
