  1. Donna was Dick’s best friend from the New Teen Titans and up until the New 52; [https://i.redd.it/4rb0urnf5md41.jpg](https://i.redd.it/4rb0urnf5md41.jpg).

I feel like this relationship hasn’t received much focus recently because it was ALWAYS entirely platonic, and, well, sex and romance is what sells. I think her absence from movie/tv is another factor. Since the Young Justice cartoon, I feel like DC has framed Wally as Dick’s unequivocal best friend; possibly also because they think it’s easier to sell a male-male friendships to a predominately male fanbase too.

Any thoughts on their relationship and its absence in comics since the New 52 began? Any favourite moments you’d like to share?

  2. Platonic soulmates fr 🥺

There was a comic where babs is trying to guess which woman was the first to “take his breath away” aka the first he had a crush on and she guessed Donna as one of the options and Dick replies “she didn’t take my breath away so much as she made it easier to breathe”

That to me summarizes their relationship to a T

  3. Right? I love that type of love that goes deeper than romance. One where you’ll truly go to bat for someone even for nothing in return other than their happiness.

Dick going through all means to find her birth family is one of the best issues in DC, bar none.

  4. Platonic relationships are seen as just teasing shippers, which is a shame because platonic relationships have all the same potentional drama if not more when platonic gets confused for romantic or boundaries are crossed.

  5. Friends don’t let friends get married to Terry Long!

Also when did Dickie Bird learn how to play guitar? lol

I do remember in the old comics, Bruce did ship them back in the 70’s. It would have been interesting to see how that would have played out funnily enough.

  6. One of my favourite Dick and Donna moments is in the JLA/Titans crossover the Technis Imperative, when the Titans are all trapped in a simulation and Dick goes to rescue Donna. He finds her hugging a simulation of her son who died, and he tries to remind her gently that it’s not real but she already knows. Such a powerful moment between the two friends

  7. I’m at the point where I almost prefer the platonic friendships to the love triangles and/or angst

More recent examples of well-written platonic friendships may be seen between Barry Allen and Kara Danvers and Amaya Jiwe and Mick Rory of the CW’s Beeboverse

  8. This is similar to what I enjoy about Dick and Babs’ relationship in the Gotham Knights video game. It’s deep uncomplicated and platonic. I wish this was their status quo moving forward in comics as well.

  9. At this point, it’s kinda hard to imagine Dick in a platonic relationship with a woman. Usually, you can cut the sexual tension in the air with one of Damian’s swords.
