Mushoku tensei, as much as Rudeus makes my skin crawl sometimes, has got to be undeniably the best isekai right? Is there anything that even compares in terms of visual and writing quality? There are pretty shows out there, like SaO as much of a meme it is was well done. And then there are well written ones like overlord and… probably others. but I seriously can’t get enough mushoku.
if someone is into ln’s and wn’s try lord of mysteries and reverend insanity, they are the best isekai I have ever read, more so than overlord or mushoku tensei (just a personal opinion, as for why, I can write some long para’s but can’t spare more effort rn), be warned they tend to be gorier -Lom is Lovecraftian- the mc is very likable and RI protagonist is straight-up demonic head and may offset many.
I’m only 3 episodes deep into mushoku tensei and I am pretty impressed.
I like Konosuba but they mainly only focus on their own city, which was like, the starting location. Sure the gang did visited several places out there but it wasn’t very often.
Also hats off to Mushoku Tensei actually put sex scenes in there. Not even Konosuba crossed that line and they always blueball all the time.
At this point I am 90% sure it is a running inside joke among anime studios, light novel authors , and manga authors to use the same fucking town in every series.
Also, each place has its own theme and they will use it again if the story takes place on it and they won’t bother to make a new opening and use the length of opening for the sake of world-building and storytelling.
To the be fair the top 3 is very typical village/large town during most of human history.
Towns are mostly build around river, since it provided the cheapest mean of transporting large amount of goods. Natural flooding of river also provided farm land and water supply for local population. Many large population centers nowadays are either close to the ocean or has a river running pass it.
Many large cities also have a wall surrounding as some sort of basic protection against raids, though very few are this circular.
Mushoku tensei is isekai refined. Take the formula but punish the protag for expecting tropes to work out. Sometimes this is funny some times it’s tough to watch but he always learns his lesson.
